Short-haired breeds can go 8-12 weeks between grooming sessions but still need regular nail trims.

In the Westchester and Fairfield County area, a basic bath and brush starts at $40-$65 for small dogs and $65-$100 for large breeds. Full grooming with a haircut runs $65-$95 for small dogs and $95-$150+ for large or matted dogs. Mobile grooming services charge a premium of $15-$30 above salon prices for the convenience of coming to your home.

A good groomer will ask about your dog's temperament, health issues, and the cut you want. The first visit usually takes longer — about 2-3 hours — as the groomer assesses your dog's coat condition and comfort level. Bring vaccination records (most salons require proof of rabies and bordetella). Puppies can start grooming as early as 12-16 weeks old.
